Hiroshima: A city of reflection and resilience

Chapter 4: Hiroshima

Hiroshima is a city defined by an extraordinary contrast between memory and renewal. What is striking about Hiroshima is that it does not feel like a city trapped in tragedy – it feels resilient and forward-looking. It is modern, spacious and surprisingly peaceful, with rivers weaving through the city, tree-lined streets and a relaxed atmosphere that feels quite different from the intensity of Tokyo or Osaka.

What we did

Where we ate

  1. SENSUI

A japanese restaurant located on the 6th floor of the Hilton Hotel. I got a whole vegetarian sushi platter, which was delicious. Loved that they made an effort to accommodate me. A splendid dining experience.

  1. Restaurant Kurawanka – Hiroshima Style Okonomiyaki

When in Hiroshima, you have to eat the Okonoyami – is a Japanese teppanyaki savory pancake dish consisting of wheat flour batter and other ingredients cooked on a teppan. The Okonomiyaki was freshly cooked right in front of us. Thee most scrumptious simple meal I’ve had.

Where we stayed

Hilton Hotel Hiroshima is locatted in central Hiroshima City, ten minutes of Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park and Museum, Hiroshima Castle, and several transit stations. Its practical, functional and perfect location for a short stay in Hiroshima. I found the lobby overwhelmingly busy with us tourists coming in and out, checking in and out.

Rooms are comfortable, clean featuring panoramic city or sea views.

The overall verdict

Hiroshima is a city of reflection and resilience. Its painful history is ever-present, yet rather than being defined solely by tragedy, the city has transformed its past into a powerful message of peace.

There is something quietly moving about walking through a modern, vibrant city while being constantly reminded of what happened here – and of Hiroshima’s remarkable ability to rebuild, renew and look towards the future.

Simply Splendid!
